Question 2 Floor Coverings in same room?

I want to have 2 different floor coverings in the living room. One of slate or tile for the entry way and carpet for the rest.

Do I have to make a smaller 'room" within the living room with invisible walls to do this? Is there a less cumbersome way? Should I be thinking of a 1/4" slab or soffit to do this?

I have searched both the how to database and this forum with not one hit that deals with this issue.

Use invisible walls. That is how the software's Help describes doing it.

Invisible walls are used to create or modify room definitions, most often by defining smaller areas within larger rooms. These smaller room areas can have different floor or ceiling materials or heights, allowing stepped areas to be created.

A soffit will only work if the room is a rectangle, and if you decide to adjust walls later, it wouldn't update, so it sounds more cumbersome to do it that way.
