Rooms in a roof - not attic storage rooms

HELP!
For two days I have been trying to create a usable room (part of SF) within the roof (not an attic room which is just for storage).
I also need the perimeter walls of the floor below to extend about 3 feet above the ceiling to support the roof. This will help make a larger room (inside the roof) and provide a roof with a shallower pitch.

Thanks. Also is it possible to make the roof a Hip instead of a Gable?

Sure, just skip the step in the article where it has you specify the walls as Full Gable. A hip roof will be what automatically generates.
