Multi-level roofs which are not connected

I am using Home Designer Suite 8.0

I would like to create a structure with 2 different roof styles. There is a 2 level part that I want to have the hip roof and then the 1 level part, which I want to have a shed roof.

The roofs are not connected and I'd can't get them separated. The shed roof keeps extending up to the roof on the 2nd level.

I'd like the shed roof to slope off to the side also.

What is the trick here?

What I really want it to make a patio out over the lower level part. A roof top patio. I need to have some slope there.

Can you post an image of what you have, so that we can more clearly understand the relationship between the hip and shed roofs?
