    Assertion failed error

Does anyone know what the 'Assertion failed error" means?

It happens when I am importing DXF files

These are tests that the programers put into the code. Assertions are typically resolved as soon as we find them and rolled up into the next update. They are typically rare and usually only present themselves in situations like this where the plan is doing something unexpected.

If you get an assertion first check to see if you have the latest update. If that does not fix the problem you should contact support with the assertion message and the steps to reproduce - we usually need the plan if the steps are specific to the plan. We can then resolve the issue for the next update. If we can determine a solution for you we will get that out to you so you can continue to work.

I have “Sent Report” many times. It happens almost every time I “export DXF current view” and import it back in the same elevation view. Home Pro 8 generates unwanted lines in elevation view almost every time. This way, I can “clean up” each view.

Importing the DXF copy of the view back into the same view triggers the error.

    Thanks for your help everyone.

    Steps to create error.

    1) Take an elevation view of your plan.
    2) Export the “Current View to DXF” for example “west_elevation_dxf”
    3) Import the same file “west_elevation_dxf” into the same view.
    4) The DXF file will be “on top of” the original view.
    5) Create a marquee around the elevation view and you will be able to separate the 2 copies by dragging the DXF file away from the original view.

The error, if it is going to happen, is at step 3.

The odds are fairly high that any assertion that you might find in an older version of Home Designer was already fixed in the latest version.

If you are not using the latest update, then you should download and install this before reporting any problems to tech support.

If you are using the latest version and you can find a reproducible case, then please report this directly to our tech support team. If we can reproduce the problem in our development lab, then we can probably get the problem fixed in a future update or at least in the next version of our product.

Even if you can't find a reproducible case, the Send Report tool can help us track down some of these problems so you should always do this as a bare minimum. These reports will go directly into an internal database that we maintain and we will regularly go through this looking for problems that we can fix. The ones that get reported the most will get the most attention.

    Thanks Dermot,

I have the latest update installed and the error still occurs.

I will send the plan to Tech Support when I have time. This has been happening ever since I began the technique of using DXF files to "Clean up" elevation views. It was no big deal; I was just curious.

I updated my laptop and it happens on it as well. I sent the plan to Tech Support. I will post what they find.

You were right. Tech Support was able to reproduce error using Pro 8 but not Pro 9.
