New and VERY GREEN at creating a landscape design...please help

I recently purchased the Landscpe and Deck Designer 9.0, but am completely confused, and the tutorial for Getting Started is not quite helping me to get started. Is the terrain perimeter supposed to be the exact dimensions of my yard? And more importantly, is this program geared to professionals only?

I'm not much of a landscaper, but I can point you in the direction of some nice online videos to help you learn to use your software better. You can find them at this link: http://video.homedesigner.chiefarchitect.com/videos
The videos that pertain to Landscape and Deck Designer are the ones with a dot in the "L" column. I highly recommend watching, and then practicing the techniques used in the videos on your own so that you get comfortable with the design tools and how/when they're used.
