12' wide dormer, flush with the sidewall on a Gable roof

I'm designing a 24 x 36' Carriage House, 1 3/4 floors with a 10/12 gable roof. I want a 12' wide dormer over the stairwell to allow easy access to the attic storage space. It seems that I am missing something simple, any suggestions? This is my first project using Home Designer Pro.

You should probably explain the results that you're seeing and the steps you've taken to obtain said results. Are you getting an error message or pop-up dialog? If so, what does it say? Without a better picture (oh, you could post an image too) of the problems you're encountering, our recommendations would be blind guessing.
