Patio cover
Pro 7.0
Trying to put a patio cover over a deck using the roof tools. I want it to only be 2" thick, but the roof tools seem to not like that. Even if I put the rafter depth to 1", they show up "thick" in 3D.
Is this a limitation of the software, or am I doing something incorrectly?
Alternatives to the roof tools?
Thanks

Did you change the rafter depth in the roof DBX?

Allen, thanks for the response, but I do not entirely understand your terminology. Change the "Roof DBX". I am not sure what that means, or where to make a change.
I did try to go in the specifications area, and change rafter depth before drawing the roof, but that changed ALL my present roofs, not just the one I am drawing now.
Of course I changed the rafter depth in the "roof plane specifications box".
I guess I still need help.
Thanks

Allen, The roof plane specifications box for the roof plane I have created is where I have made my change. "rafter depth" is the only place I can see to make a change. It does not matter if I put this to 1 or 10, the 3D views show it the same. Changing the rafter depth, automatically changes the vertical rafter depth, but to no effect.
I have tried a experimental new plan with two manual roof planes. I changed one of them to 1 rafter depth, and they both come out the same in 3D
Perplexing, when things don't work the way you think.
Thanks

Hi Ron
The problem I think is the trim is all the same size..To see the different sizes, roof framing needs to be built.
Try using the ceiling planes..Allen Colburn Jr.

Allen, thanks for the reply. With the holiday and all, I have not been able to get back to it until now. I see from your thumbnail that it can be done, but I have not figured out how yet.
I add ceiling planes, and that does not do it. I build roof framing, with 2" rafters and all, and that changes all my roofs to that thickness. How do you just select the one roof and do a change? I can select the roof ok, but it does not give me the opportunity to change anything that effects it.
I am still struggling with this.

Hi Ron
You use the ceiling plane tool just like a roof plane..It has to be done manually.
The skinny/thin one is a ceiling plane..Allen Colburn Jr.

OK, Allen. I guess I get it now. I would never have thought to use the ceiling plane by itself, but it does work. That solves my problem. I have not figured if there is a way to change the thickness of the ceiling plane, but in my case it does not matter. It does display fine.
Thank you for the patience and help.

You can change the rafter depth in ceiling planes to,build the framing but then have to move the ceiling plane above the framing..
If it works you might want to leave it be..Allen Colburn Jr.
