probably you made the wall 17' high and then tried to make 8ft interior walls right? make the 1st floor 8ft , setup your bathroom, then add another 8ft floor on top, turn on reference display and make an invisible wall along the edge of the bathroom wall/area then you can select the area where there should be no floor and on the room dbx specify it as "open below"
