I usually use "shapes" to emulate such objects. There are some pre-fab symbols for some furnaces in the Library Browser under HVAC. Since no one will ever "live" in a virtual model, oftentimes it is only necessary to indicate such things with text or simple 2D CAD objects with no real need to 3D model such things. Again such things are a personal preference, the main importance being that as a designer that you make sure that enough space is provided for the installation and operation of such devices.
Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC are licensed trades in all 50 states and so are State governed, as a designer you make sure the space is there and the licensed trades person will then make sure the installations are to code as applicable to his or her licensed trade.
