shadows on terain

I have no luck casting shadows on terrain objects with home designer essentials. The objects have a shadow or dark side opposite where the sunlight hits it but thats it. Not sure what to do... upgrade?

I opened my copy of Essentials and things like walls, cabinets, shapes shadowed OK but things like "plants" did not, I also checked this in Architectural and Home Designer Pro with the same results.

Plant images do create shadows in Chief Architect Premier but that is a large upgrade for just that result.

It appears that everything shadows as it should except for objects based upon bit map images like plants, sorry (I had never noticed that before but I commonly use Chief Premier most of the time).
