inaccurate material list (unspecified additions to list)
Suite 2014
I'm having issues with the program generated material list: I am planning out a one story house with a 1/2 story loft area over half of the main floor. All rooms (except the bath which is tile) are to have hardwood floors. When I generate the material list, it lists 1/2" carpet padding rebond on the list. I have gone over the plan, room by room (including stairs) and have made sure it is all hardwood flooring yet the list persists on showing it.
Is there a way (or a 'key') to find out where a given material item is slated to be used from the ID number?
This makes me wonder what else is being generated that I have not specified for. Does anyone have ideas about this?

I don't have much first hand experience with using the material list
but I can tell you this much. The general consensus from what I've
seen in the forums (here & ChiefTalk) is that they are unreliable and
shouldn't be used for pricing or ordering purposes without being very
carefully parsed for errors. There is currently a thread on ChiefTalk
discussing material list reliability. If you are interested you can view
the thread and get a feeling for what others think about the material
list (You might have to create an account to be able to see the
attached images).

definitely don't rely on them to order your materials..... they are way off....
my guess would be that your Default plan house had carpet which you changed to HWood after, but how? materials painter? and the materials list is not showing the change...
or did you change the materials in the Edit>Defaults> Rooms>Normal Room>materials tab
and or use the Library ?

Thanks for the input and the link about the reliability of HD's material lists. This is my first real venture in trying to use them (and probably my last without the added scrutiny which isn't much better than doing it all by hand, manually. I appreciate the advice.
