Loft

Hi all,
I'm sure this problem has been addressed in the forums already somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
I'm trying to create log home, with a loft in the center. The whole house is only one story, except for the loft in the center. Its a pretty common design so I'm sure it's possible to recreate. I'm using HD 6.0.
The problem I'm having is when I go to create the roof, I can't get the roof over the wings to stay at 1 story. I tried to create temporary wall, but this doesn't seem to help.
