hole in the terrain

What tools do I use to expose the basement foundation wall to create a walkout basement? I can lower the terrain, but I cannot expose the wall except with the "hole" tool and it just creates a white area that I cannot do anything with.

In Deluxe, I can use a Terrain Feature region to create a hole in the terrain. If your version has that capability, it will be under your Terrain Menu.
