I'm trying to add cedar shakes to part of an exterior wall. How and what do I use to separate or block the wall

Connor, couple of things, please tell us what software you're using? Then go to quick links, edit signature, and add that information to your signature so each time you post we'll know the soft ware version you are using.
Here is a quick link that might help: http://homedesignersoftware.com/supp...?faqNumber=290

Also, again depending on your software capabilities and how you want to add it, you can use the break wall tools to deliniate the extent of the width of the material area you wish to change, you can use the wall dbx by clicking on the wall going to the materials tab and possibly changing it there, and you may be able to find cedar (roof shakes) in your library, if you don't have it in the siding library, then use the material painter to add it, however that sometimes "screws" up the whole wall or walls.
