    Dormer

Below is a picture of a house my husband designed 6 years ago. I personally love French country and decided to use it for our home site with the actually drawing and actual picture of the house built.

Problem, the far right dormer (ridge) is suppose to be extruded from the ridge of the hip roof behind it. When I try to push the dormer back, and raise the dormer height, the dormer disappears. I figured out how to flatten the top of the roof peak (yeah...), but the dormer height issue I cannot get beyond. If it's an easy fix than I want to do it the way he designed it, but if it's to complex, Mark will have to live with it.

    Thanks for your help.

Gail, wouldn't the house appear more balanced with the right-hand dormer having the same size and elevation as the other dormers? Wouldn't moving it to meet the ridge height throw it off balance?

    Gail,
Explode the dormer and draw the the roof plane manually. After you explode the dormer, click on one of it's roof planes. Modify the plane to meet the ridge at the top.

    Thanks Dean,

Don, the answer is no if I could keep the same pitch. The house has already been built and looks great done that way. Now I know someone is questioning why do a house already built? Because I love the French Country look and wanted to showcase each phase, the sketch design, the 3d design and actual picture of the house completed on our web site. It kind of helps clients see the bigger picture...

Rick, I did as you said and it changed the pitch from 12 and 12 to 14 & 12... Should I raise the dormer up before trying to do as you instructed? I will play with it more tonight and see if I can figure it out.

Rick, you are one of the MVP on this forum when it comes to help, I didn't think I would ever get the hang of it, honestly, but I'm determined. I'm still trying to work out the kinks on the front porch of the other you gave me, and as soon as I do I will post a picture. This is soooooo much fun.

My only problem, getting off the computer before 2:30 AM. Do you know how many times my husband has walked out groggy wondering where his snuggle partner was? This software is a serious addiction.

    Gail,

I guess you need to look at Mark's plan and place the dormer where he has it. Then do the custom roof.

Hmmmm, not getting it, guess that's what I get for saying I think I am starting to understand roofs. I need a mechanical mind, literally.

Since this was done just for the web site, it is what it is....

    Thanks for your advise,

I'm trying another thought process I have after "the accountant in me" is done for the day (procrastination is not a Leo trait but when it comes to taxes I'm a procrastinator).

If I can't get the dormer tonight, I might just take you up on it. The "Leo" (and auditor) in me won't let me just give up, I have to understand the why's...

August what Rick? I am still thinking your close to the cusp, the question is which cusp?
