Update of my progress for my sewing room addition
Thanks to everyone here I have had a lot to think about--like adding a closet, 1/2 bath, sitting area, design wall, island in the center of the room for my cutting table, central vac, and separate HVAC. I still don't have those things in the design of my room yet and will take any suggestions. Because I want to bring in a love seat or recliners and will have a long hallway I thought about adding french doors instead of a window to the front of the sewing room. That will be the front of the house so I don't know how safe and practical that will be. I guess that would be no different than the front door. I will work on the plan with the french doors but then I would want it to set back from the garage because I would need a porch and step up to the french doors.
By the way, the roof line is not like my house--Suite 6.0 would not let me change it. Also, for everyone that does not know--I am enlarging the garage by 18' too and adding a 20' x 32' sewing room.Last edited by wyosue; 04-01-2008 at 09:45 AM.

Sue,
I think to get rid of the 2nd set of pillars you need to make a material called "invisible" and put it in your My Materials folder in the Liberay.
Make the Transparency = Transparent. Then use the "spray can".
I think you need to make a couple of adjustments to you plan to accomodate the 1/2 bath and sitting area. Instead of having that hallway to get to your sewing room make part of the room behing the garage addition. (see attached)

Rick, I am indebted to you for this tip! I was jealous because I thought only Pro could make materials invisible. I know I would never have thought to try to make my own. Now I have made the weirdly sized and positioned bed pillows disappear. Thank you!!!!

Sue,
I didn't see the basement window.
I'm just throwing ideas out there for you to consider.

Finally--It works for me. Do you see where the window is? By the way, like I said before--I love the way you have the front. I never thought about it but it I am teaching quilting classes my students can come right in to my sewing room instead of going through the rest of the house. Thanks again.Last edited by wyosue; 04-01-2008 at 02:06 PM.

Hi Sue,
Yes, I see it now. Well, I guess it would just have to go. The extra space that you gain behind the garage extension can be used for a lot of things, like the bathroom, a walk in closet, etc.

Rick--I am pretty down right now. I did not get to talk to the guy about the trusses but the builder that gave me the bid was there and I showed him the pictures I had and his idea was to of have the other bay on the sewing room addition side. He said to tie in to the trusses that are already there. One problem I just thought of--that is not going to help me with the existing garage openings. I am trying to get them 10' wide and if the opening is 16' how can that happen? Is my thinking all wrong? Or would it be that we take the 22' wide portion of the existing garage and make that the 2 -10' bays? Is that going to give enough room between them?
Also, I changed the width of my sewing room since we moved the wall back (which by the way--everyone loves) and the roof does not cover that portion and if I click rebuid roof it changes the design of the roof. Do you know how I would fix this problem?Last edited by wyosue; 04-02-2008 at 10:31 AM.

Sue: You don't need to have 10' wide garage doors. 8' are normal and 9' are slightly more expensive. You just need to have the space from door to door. 10' will probably cost you much more, possibly double. Watch your special materials. Try to stick with the better of the "usual crowd". These are the slightly more expensive items but not outrageously priced ones.
9' garage doors give you about 1.5-2' on each side of a car when backing in. You get the full width of the stated size too.
I have seen garage door that are much higher for truck etc. and they look goofy, to me, on houses. You will need about 2' above the door to ciling height for the track and closing mechanism also unless, again, you want to custom order specially priced mechanisms.BH&G Pro Rev. 7.08
