    "Stoop" style porches

I am using Landscaping and Deck Designer 7.5 and I live in an area where there are many homes with a concrete stoop for a front porch, most without a roof. When I try to create it, I end up with a floating 4" thick concrete slab. I am having a devil of a time trying to create the substructure. Help?

    Thanks.

Go to build floor>foundation>derive foundation from first floor> then add the info on how thick you want it or how high the foundation wall will be. You may have to come back and open the foundation plan, then turn on reference display and add the (foundation) wall under the stoop section, you will need to set the floor height for the stoop (which is actually a porch in the room defintion). Open materials, select what material / color it is to be and you should have it. Hope this helps

I must be dense, but I did everything you suggested right up to "add the foundation wall under the stoop section" and can't figure out how to do that. The stoop height was already set at 24". ?

    Thanks for your patience.

Lee Ann, if you have built the foundation for the house, then go to the foundation plan open it-then turn on the ref floor display child tool (which should give you a red outline of the stoop (porch). see thumbnail, then on the tool bar, click on the wall parent tool, then the exterior wall tool, then drag a wall counter clockwise starting the house (foundation) wall, under the reference display for the stoop (rails) until you have three walls drawn under the stoop. Then open each of those walls dbx and set the exterior material to concrete stem wall or block, brick or whatever material you want also, while in the wall dbx you should see an option to align the wall with wall (rail) above / below, check the align with wall above box. After doing all three the same way you should have it.
