Joining existing Roof to new Roof

    Hi:

The attachments show a drawing of a cottage on a crawl space that is being raised and put on basement. The light colored shingles indicates the existing cottage and the gray indicates additions. I not satisfied with the roof over the deck and the roof over the side door. I am just throwing this out for ideas. The lot is very narrow (50’ x 147’) which limits the design. I’m not sure how to join the new roof to the existing roof so the existing roof overhang does not show “inside” the cottage. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Have you tried setting the pitch on each wall seperately?

Let's say the main house has a pitch of 5:12; you want to click on each wall of the additions and change the pitch from 5:12 to let's say 7:12. I think by playing with the addition walls will raise your additon's roof line to be in alignment with the original roof.

I am not a roofer, but I just completed a challenge for a friend that where I had to work out the math to get the roof to be in perfect alignment with the rest of the house.

And there is a recent post by me where Rick was helping me with the sunroom/billard room's roof alignment. Find that post (should be on this page or the next) and it might have better information/suggestions for you.

    Thanks Dee,

I will take your advice. The drawings are finished for building permit requirements. That was my first client. I want to learn how to do this for future projects.

    Thanks again

    Hi Gord
If you don't want part of the roof to nor have an overhang, just pull that part back flush with the wall.
You can use the break line tool to greak a roof edge and change it's shape..

    Hi Allen,

Thanks...I figured out the out to make the roof line flush with the wall but didn't think of using the break line tool.

    Thanks

    Your welcome
I think it makes a 90 degree break with one click in 8..In seven and chief 10 you had to click the break tool twice..
