Defining areas for treatments

I'm having trouble defining areas for specific treatments, specifically, isolating a single wall for color or defining an area rug area. Any thoughts?

It is important that you let us know what version of the software you are using so that we can accurately answer you.

Changing the color of a single wall is easy, select it, choose Open Object, go to the Materials tab and set its color on the appropriate surface. If necessary, use the Break Wall tool to define just the sections of wall you want to change. If you have a Wall Covering tab on your Wall Specification dialog, you can set different colors there as well.

With the rug, don't try to apply the material directly to the floor, place the rug first, select it, Open Object, go to the Materials tab, and set the material of the area rug.
