Stumped and Confused

I'm pretty new to this and I need a little help. I'm running Version 8.0, which I've owned for two days. I've been able to do the interior stuff pretty easily and I was suprised at how quickly I was up and running. I'm a little concerned about the way I've been approaching this project and afraid that I may be painting myself into a corner.

The house is a simple rectangle with a small addition on the back. Here is what I did...

Created the first floor and detached garage.
Created the basement
Created the second story (I think it is really a story and a half structure)

By viewing the attached drawings, can someone let me know if I'm appraoching this correctly? I've really been having trouble with the roof lines, but the drawing is fairly accurate, other than the program wants to cut the roof in half...

I may end up being this forums worst nightmare.... Thanks in advance.

The roof looks fine in 3D based on the pictures you attached? Are you just confused because part of it is building over the first floor and the rest on the 2nd in the floor plan view?
