    UnHappy Video Render

    Greetings,

I've just started using BHG's Home Designer 8 Suite. The only problem I am having is with the 3D renders. At first, it would render everything, but it would be pixelated, but it would work. However, in the middle of looking around my plan in 3D, suddenly about 3/4 of the render area just went blank, as if there is a huge white bar across it.

I captured an image of it here:

You can see some of the original pixilation, as well as how about 3/4 of it is missing. Very bizarre.

    Here are my specs:

    Version: Home Designer Suite v8.5.5.18

    OS: XP Pro
    Video: ATI Radeon 9800 (AGP, 256MB, 400mhz)
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+
    RAM: 1gig

I just installed the newest video drivers too, and it didn't solve the problem.

This problem pretty much makes the program useless to me.

Is there a known solution, or anyone have any ideas?

    Many thanks ahead of time!

Well, I found out that if I go into the video card's hardware acceleration, and turn it down to the point where DirectDraw and Direct3D are turned off, it will work. Slow as molasses, but it will work. I've updated to the latest DirectX and my latest video card drivers. Any idea what's going on?

You can try doing a Final View or Final View with Shadows under the 3D menu once you have a preview to see a better display (less pixelated).

Updating DirectX wouldn't affect this software, it uses OpenGL.

Unfortunately, the same problem happens in that view as well.

The only way for me to get a "clean" view is to disable Direct3D / DirectDraw on my vid card. It'll work then...just SOOOOOOOO slow.

No other program or game has this issue with my vid card.

There's a lot of math that goes into calculating the hidden geometry of your model. This is work for the cpu, not the video card. Increasing your ram would help.

There are also adjustments you can do in Preferences>Render to speed things up, but since I don't have your version I can't advise.

Might be a good idea to contact Tech Support?
