    Question Layout from Scan

Is there a way to scan in a floor plan and use that as a starting point for a project?

Yes. Just use the Import Picture tool to bring it into your plan, then resize it to where it is close to the right size, and finally, just trace your walls over it.

I tried this and it failed. The error says the file is corrupt, but I can open it outside HD without any trouble.

lol Wow, over two years later and you're just now getting back to this? Are you using the same file you originally attached to this thread? Because I was able to import it into Deluxe and AHD without a problem. But it looks like a really easy plan to recreate without even needing to trace over it.

LOL. Perserverance indeed. I'm in the military and have been away. Back home now, I've got plans for improvements on the yard and interior remodel. Thus I've taken up this project again

If your Architect / Designer provided you this plan (I'm assuming no copyrights have been violated here), ask your Architect/Designer for a cad file and import that file, trace over the walls, and get rid of the imported walls.

Yes, I'm using the same file. Don't know what the deal is.

I've got nearly the entire floor plan done, sans roof or slab. There are a couple oddities to the plan which give me trouble (this being my first project). The foyer being the biggest (see Raised Entrance for ongoing issues). I'm also trying to figure out what manner of walls to use on the second floor (see Interior vExterior Wall). There is a bar to be built underneath the main staircase which is sure to cause trouble as well. The main staircase needs adjusting as well. On the lower half, where it extends past either flanking wall, the treads extend wider beyond the side walls. And the roof, who knows how I'm going to take on that feat! I haven't tried yet. For the exterior, the lot is exterior and perched on a hill. This has presented it's own problems relating to adjusting the elevation lines (see Retaining Wall).

And to think, all this just so I can change it with grand dreams of remodeling should I hit the lotto!

It was a flyer originally utilized by realtors. I can't seem to locate it at this time.

It sounds as if Brett is simply trying to draw his current house in order to effect modifications?

That being the case, I don't believe he would be violating the law, even if he is using a flier as an aid to making the task quicker.

Whether or not that is the quick way is another question.
