This is caused by a bug in Windows XP Service Pack 2. To easily bypass this problem insert the disk and explore the CD. You will find an Install folder. Inside the install folder is a setup.exe application. Run this application and the install should be seamless.
Note that the problem is not specific to the Epson Scanner software. The installer could launch any previously installed application instead of our application.Dan Park
