how to add books on a bookcase
Hi - new user just getting to grips with HomeDesigner. Can anyone give me a quick run down on how to use Symbol Graphics - I've got a bookcase (which I've customised from a base cabinet) that I want to add books to using the "Row of Books" symbol graphic. It looks like it paints on, but it paints the entire bookcase....

The "Row of Books" that you will find in the library under "Symbol Graphics" is a material that is designed to go onto another object. The suggestion of placing a soffit and then applying the material onto it should work OK.
There are also book symbols in the library that might work better for what you are doing. They are stored under Interiors>Accessories. You can also use the search tool to find them by typing in the search word "book" and selecting the "Filter by Type" option and choosing just the interior furnishings.Dermot Dempsey

Thanks - appreciate the replies - I've been extremely busy and haven't got to try this yet, but will post back once I've given it a go...
