Creating inlay tile patterns
Howdy!
How do you create inlay tile patterns on a wall, such as a different type of tile along a row one foot above a tub, then maybe another row above a couple of feet above that. So if the whole tub area is one tile, these rows would be something different. I know how to make custom materials and tiles, but don't know how to apply them as described above.
Thanks!

Three ways I can think of:
1. Use the "Wall Covering" tab to do what you want
2. Re shape soffits to suit and stack them on wall surfaces.
3. I suppose you could also use custom slabs for that but I think methods 1 and 2 would be easier to do

In the Room Specification Dialogue there's a tab called "Wall Covering"
You can add as many coverings as you want. Including, moldings, different tiles and materials. Add any tile pattern you want, having in mind its height and play with the dimensions and heightsHome Designer Architectural 2014

Wall coverings is for the application of "Materials" (not moldings as they are fully 3D and of limited use in Architectural, mainly on cabinets). Moldings can be added to walls by way of the "Wall Specification Dialog - Moldings Tab" but not by way of the "Wall Covering Tab".

@ David
I know that. Now that I'm quite familiar with HDA maybe I thought it was obvious, but nothing is. I hope I didn't confuse bcherryholmes.Home Designer Architectural 2014

I know I can fake a wall, make a sofit, place an "object" but I was hoping there was a better more natural way of stacking various tile types, sizes and so on to give an inlay pattern.
Thanks for the help,
Bill C.

Oh fewey! David was correct. I can stack everything in the wall coverings tab and set whatever I want for the various tile pieces at any level I want, just by "adding" as I need them. Takes a little math to add everything up but that's what they make calculators for.
Thanks David! (And everyone else)
