Lowering terrain in back yard
I seem to be doing something wrong because I can't seem to be able to lower the elevation in the rear yard. Actually the lot is about 3' below road elevation and I'll need fill for the front yard. I would like to have a daylight basement with windows in the finished rooms and a stairway to the outside with a normal exterior door to an outside landing, 6' x 6', and garden stairs leading up to the backyard elevation. I hope that I've explained this correctly.

There is a KB Article on Daylight basements , and it sounds like you need to watch the videos on Terrain>Elevation lines and >Elevation points and how to set them as well.
Get the Reference Manual too if you don't already have.... more helpful than the built in help menu..... PDF off the Help Menu item...

All the articles in the help database have a "KB" in their name. Go to the Home Designer home page and look under support / help database.
In particular, this article might be what you are looking for:

Sorry they used to call it the Knowledge Base ,now the Help Database, lots of helpful tutorials but the videos let you "see the light" easier ( no pun intended)
this KB Tut. is specifically on your problem I think...

Ross, I opened my copy of Suite 2014 and created a terrain plane, then opened the Specification Dialog for Terrain and on the General Tab are the check boxes for "Flatten Pad" and "Auto Calculate Elevation". Take another look please.

Under Terrain> Build terrain perimeter the "Build terrain perimeter" is in gray scale and cannot be selected.

There is a 'walk-out basement tutorial' in your user guide.

You can't build terrains in Suite ? who's terrain did you post above?
Oh hang on ... you already built (created) the terrain, that's why you can't rebuild it from Terrain>Create Menu again......(it's grayed out)
ahhh yes see no#2 in the KB Tut.
zoom out if needed and right click on the (green?) dotted terrain perimeter and choose open
( you may need to make sure you are on the right level (floor) to see the terrain perm.)
> on the 1st tab is the Building Pad box with auto calc. elev. and flatten pad check boxes in it. once unchecked you can set the terrain height in the same box. *note the number is assumed negative don't put a - before the no# as well to go down , it will go up as the DBX assumes negative already.
for a normal Stem wall foundation the floor on level one is assumed to be 18" above ground already , so if adjusting terrain height allow for that already in place.

Thanks Kbird, on a new plan I do see that the build terrain is available to use. Is there some way that I can eliminate the terrain perimeter on the existion plan?
