Clerestory windows

I'm designing a workshop that will have a loft. I'd like a row of clerestory windows along the top of the loft roof. If you don't know what I'm talking about, picture two shed roofs "facing each other, with one of them a couple of feet higher than the other at the peak. A wall of windows fills the "gap" between the two roof peaks. How can you draw this?

Draw the roof by using two shed roofs then add the windows in a three D view.

Can't figure out how to draw two shed roofs. I'm using Suite 6.0. It seems that the only option I have is "Build Roof." I'd very much like to draw roof sections separately. That would solve a lot of roof challenges.

I tried this in Suite and it is a bit tricky but can be done.

Try this:

Lets suppose our roof overhang is 18 inches.

1) Draw two buildings 18 inches apart.

2) Set the heights on the two rooms that are created so one is taller than the other.

3) build shed roofs on each building.

4) Now the overhang of the lower roof will be against the tall wall. Be carefull on distance here or the lower roof will cut the tall wall.

5) Next remove the wall of the lower building that is 18 in from the tall wall and extend the outside walls to where you want them.

You should now have two shed roofs.

If you have pro this is much easier by using manual roof planes.

Thanks Dan. Very useful for my application as well. I am a novice running Home Designer Suite 7.0 and this is my first posting. This is ingenious and works very well BUT my problem is that I have a 4:12 slope on 1 side and a 7:12 slope on the other with a 24" sunken living room on the 4:12 side. How do I generate these roofs on the same plan? Or can I? Must I do them separately and somehow merge the plans?

You can set the pitch when you open a wall under roof on the left side..This over rides the default pitch..

How do you construct two different roof pitches on the same drawing? ie a 4:12 and a 7:12? I must be missing something somewhere.

When you open up a wall under roof tab,look on the left side for a place to add the pitch..This over rides the default..

Thanks very much. The problem was that in making a shed roof I was changing slopes on end gable walls and full shed wall but ignoring the lower wall. Anyway it is working now. Thanks again.
