Gable roof starting at the second floor, to the 1st
I am struggling to create a roof for my project. The project has two floors, which require a roof. I intend to have a gable, which extends from the mid-point of the second floor, sloping down across a great room to the 1st floor wall. Please see attached. I cannot figure out how to do this. Does anyone have an idea how to make this work? I also cannot keap the program from placing a dormer-like structure over outside doors. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Need to know which version and software title you have to offer specific advice, number one.
In most Home Designer titles and versions, you "tell" the software what you want by settings (check-boxes, input-boxes, radio-button locations) in room (spaces enclosed by wall objects) dialog boxes, the build roof dialog, wall dialog box-roof tab settings. When these are well understood and the indicated procedures as outlined found by way of the "Roof Styles Tab of the Build Roof dialog" and Reference Manual are followed you get needed-wanted results, otherwise you do not.

David,
Thank you for the quick response! I have this software:
Home Designer Suite 2012
Build 11.3.1.6x32
March 15, 2012
I'm a newbie, and decided to try this out to nail down what we wanted to present to an architect, and avoid disagreeing with my girlfriend on the plan. I'm learning allot quickly, but not sure how to tell the software about my roof? I have the entire home built, and furnished. I am just stuck on the roof. Did my little picture help you understand what I want to do? Thank you so much for your help.

Steve,
Please post (make the file available) or share it with me, your sketch is not enough evidence to say anything other than general advice.
The two end walls on the second level should be set to "Full Gable Wall" as shown in the article on "Gable Roofs" found in the Build Roof Dialog-Roof Styles Tab.
The two common walls that are co-linear with the second floor walls but on the first floor adjacent to the second floor will be set the same. The area above the first floor that does not have the second floor resting upon it should not be drawn on the second floor as it is an attic area, the software will automatically fill-in any needed walls there, if you manually draw walls in that area over the first floor, it will confuse the roof generator like mad.
If the above seems confusing, it is due to the difficulty of sharing instructions about actions to objects, it is always easier to "show" than to describe such things.

David,
Once again, thank you for the reply. I have configured the walls as you recommended, but I am getting the same result. Do any of the more premium versions allow for manual construction of the roof? I can FTP the file to you, if that would make it easier? I'm sure just I'm missing some detail. Please let me know. Thank you so much.

David,
I got it to work. I needed to increase the hight of the connecting 1st florr walls to just over 12 feet, and it connected. Thank you for your help!
