UnHappy How to add Gates to my fencing

    Howdy folks!

In the library under 'Doors' are 'gates'. No matter what I do I cannot put one on my drawing. All I get is a crosshair. I tried clicking on them, dragging them and nothing. Anyone know a possible reason for this?
    Thanx!

Interesting James. I did the fence and gate real quick with Pro 7. See thumbnails. Couldn't place the gate until I built the fence How are you trying to build it?

    James,

The "gates" are under the Doors library for a reason. Like most doors, they want to be added to a wall of some sort. (a solid wall, a railing, deck railing, or a fence)

Basically, some objects can be placed independently, like couches and tables and cabinets. Other objects like doors (or gates)and drop-in appliances or fixtures have to be added to already existing objects (like walls or cabinets). The program just decides that we shouldn't be allowed to have a window floating out in space.

    Thumbs up gates... Roofs...AAAAAhhhhhhh

I can see I'm going to have to use all of my mousing abilities to crack this gate code. They do fit nicely into fencing. I am trying to create a wrought iron fence with a wrought iron gate. So far, I haven't hit it yet. Thanks for the tips! At least now I'm heading in the right direction.

I'm in the same boat. I put in a chain link fence but cannot install the gate. If I hover the cursor over the wall of the house I can install the gate into the house wall but not into the chain link fence next to the house. I tried installing an invisible wall over the chain link fence but still cannot place the gate there. ????

Some software titles do not have "Gates" as a feature, what do you have? How to create gates is well answered above for those titles that do have gates as a feature.

    Hi David,
I have Home Designer Architectural 2014. I see several chain link gates in my library and can install one in the side of my house (it looks funny when I do this. I can see right into my rec room through the gate ha-ha) but it shows nothing but cross hairs when I hover on the chain link fence. I love this software but am having trouble learning it. (I'm 66 years old). Your book sounds interesting. I'll need to learn how to change my roof style too.

Thank you but my book is only for users of Home Designer Pro or Chief Premier, all you need to know about roof generation in Architectural is resident in the "Build Roof Dialog - Roof Styles Tab".
